Deep Channels is an electronic work for live performance using melting ice and Max/MSP. Ice cubes are set in a bowl onstage and the sound of the ice melting is manipulated in real time with a series of loops, filters and delays. The audio processing highlights the various components of this particularly complex sound, including bubbling, popping, squeaking, stretching and colliding with other ice cubes and their container. Deep Channels aims to expose listeners to the sonic world that exists beneath the surface of water.
